A TAXIGAMI DECAPTYCH

inDanger is a 10 piece Taxigami installation that centers around endangerment. This Taxigami decaptych seeks to raise awareness for, honor, & uplift the lives that have been threatened, endangered, and lost due to the actions (& inaction) of Us, the humans. We have the collective responsibility, as well as the collective ability, to support, protect, and uplift these lives and bring them out of vulnerability. This series will uplift 9 vulnerable lives in need of support starting with the Riverine Rabbit. I will also be featuring the life of a species lost to myth & legend as a reminder of what could happen to any of these 9 lives if We don't act accordingly. Although the first step is always awareness, awareness without action is not enough. So as I hope this series creates awareness and helps to evoke empathy within its audience, my biggest hope is that these pieces become a catalyst for action and create tangible support for these vulnerable lives.
Because if we aren’t actively helping the vulnerable survive,
we are inactively aiding their demise.

Taxigami
Taxigami is the artform of arranging three-dimensional paper sculptures in frames (or on platforms) as a minimalistic representation to honor a subject. The idea of trophy hunting has always been something that bothered me, especially since whole species are being driven to extinction because of it. So I created Taxigami as a more ethical version of taxidermy to showcase & honor the beauty of some of my favorite animals without the trauma associated with trophy hunting. I've been developing Taxigami over the past few years, & though I've taken inspiration from several great origamists, many of the origami designs are my own and most are from one single sheet of paper.
